Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) made an
impact at the Association of IT Professionals (AITP) National Collegiate
Conference (NCC) this year March 26-29th in Omaha, NE. The AITP student chapter and our Southern
Polytechnic Information Security Assurance (SPISA) Competition Team sent 8 students to
compete in 8 of the 16 competitions at the national level. The students who attended the NCC are Justin
Bollen, Alex Durden, Scott Hurn, Brandon King, Michael DeMarco, Felipe Spinolo,
Austin Wagoner and Morgan Willis. All of the SPSU students competed in at least
2 competitions each.
The competitions the
students participated in were the Code-A-Thon, Database Design, Enterprise
Systems, Java Developer, Microsoft Office Solutions, Network Design, PC
Troubleshooting, Security and the Web Design Project.
SPSU did very well in all the competitions,
bringing home Honorable Mentions in Code-A-Thon (Team: Brandon King and Felipe
Spinolo-out of 23 teams), PC Troubleshooting (Alex Durden-out of 153 teams) and
Security (Alex Durden-out of 70 teams). The
Web Design Project Team was asked to present their submission even though they
did not place in the top 10 finalists. Scott
Hurn presented the project which is the only project that requires early
submission. The other students that
participated in the Web Design Project that started in early September 2014 are
Jennifer Moore, Yada Ratana-Opath, Viral Patel, and Ditsakarn Punyapab.
All of the students took the opportunity to
speak with (and some were granted on the spot job interviews!) with Union
Pacific, Google, State Farm, and The FBI.
Our students continue to represent us well! I am very proud
of how well they performed both in the competitions and at the conference. Congratulations to all the students and next year we will bring it again
in Chicago!
